August 2010, Tomatoes!!!

Well, this is my first post!

This weekend I canned tomatoes as I do each year. I went to Herr's Farms in Lowell, In (they grow for "Red Gold" brand tomato products), I picked 6 1/2 bushels of plum tomatoes, wich is far less than so many others I know. Once I got them home, my wonderful girlfriend washed them, and I processed them to make tomato sauce, peeled whole tomatoes, chopped chili garlic tomatoes, and "sun-dried" tomatoes. What a weekend!
What kind of canning and/or preserving do you do?

  1. Hey, it's Sonny again. I just thought of something else I wanted to tell you about. Last week at the Elmhurst Farmers' Market I found "Italian White Cucumbers". They're light green, fuzzy and have a bit of melon character to the taste and texture. I bought a few including one big one to use for seeds. I know Nunzi's mother grows them as well.Check them out!

  2. It's me again! My mother just called; told me to come and pick her Zucchini Blossoms and use them.

  3. Sonny, I fried about 50 last week, half plain and half stuffed with Ricotta, Romano, and Ricotta Salata. Of course all were parmesean battered. Che Bello!!
